The most common causes for air full of pollutants and unpleasant odours are fomaldehyde and ammonia.

For instance, formalmaldehyde is contained in wooden furniture, glues, insulation materials, laminate flooring and carpets, hence it can be found in all living and working environments.  Formaldehyde is considered to be harmful even at 0.05 ppm, and can cause headaches, sickness or eye irritations and even provoke inflammation of the mucous membranes and respiratory disease or cancer.

The most common disturbances in terms of smells are kitchen fumes, pet smells and cigarette smoke. The odour causing this is predominantly ammonia.
